Warning: Be careful of misleading information in competing products claiming to contain Lyprinol® PCSO-524®. Absolutely no other product contains the same active ingredients as Lyprinol® as no other company is able to use the same extraction processes used. We own the only cold extraction plant and any copycat product is extracted by solvent extraction which uses heat; this effectively renders the oil inactive. Competing companies may attempt to market their products by associating them with Lyprinol® and therefore implying that Lyprinol® research is applicable to their product. This claim of efficacy by association is misleading.
In more than 18 years of consumption world-wide, no adverse reactions have been documented. The inherent health benefits of Lyprinol® have further unexpected benefits under certain circumstances.The lipid extract has been shown to give the digestive system protection, as well as aiding healthy breathing.
Fish and shellfish can be polluted by heavy metals and toxins. Therefore, dietary recommendations for increasing the amount of fish consumed are sometimes regarded critically. Any pollutants that might be in the lipid extract in PCSO-524® are eliminated through the patented super critical CO2 extraction. Because no heat is involved no polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons occur and there is no damage to the oil. Furthermore, the mussel cultivation, harvesting and processing are supervised by New Zealand's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF). The water quality where the mussels grow is checked continuously.
The Perna canaliculus mussel is cultivated in the seas of New Zealand (mostly in the Marlborough Sounds area). The flesh of the freshly harvested mussel is stabilised, exclusively by Pharmalink International, using a patented process and then freeze dried. Following this procedure the marine lipid oil PCSO-524® is extracted with the superior, patented chemical-free Supercritical CO2 fluid extraction process carried out in Pharmalink’s plant in Nelson; which is the only commercial sized plant in Australasia. This highly advanced extraction process produces the highest quality end-product which is free from heavy metals, pesticides, micro bacteria and residue solvents. And, most importantly, the only one with a vast body of international studies which show it works for a range of health issues. MPI (formerly MAF) audits and monitors the extraction processes. The CO2 extraction process uses a combination of low temperature and pressure. No heat is involved and this prevents the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAC) and protects the health-integrity of the oil. This unique extraction process results in pure oil which does not contain protein from shellfish, which can be a cause of shellfish allergy in some people. The stabilisation process used for the manufacture of this exclusive material is the only scientifically-proven method to protect the active marine fatty acids found in the Green lipped mussel. This is because the unique method eliminates the oxidation (the destruction) of the very important active compounds found in within the lipid spectrum of Green lipped mussels. Other mussel oil extracts, that cannot use the stabilisation processes, suffer from oxidation thus rendering the marine oil inactive and likely ineffective.
NB: PAC substances are also termed benzopyrene and are carcinogenic substances that occur in heated foodstuffs such as potato crisps, barbecued meat, biscuits and some soy isoflavone products.Approximately 5% lipid extract can be extracted from the freeze-dried mussel flesh, although these values can vary due to the time of year and the available food sources. The mussels are not fed artificially; they survive on the natural micro-plankton and algae in the sea water. The equivalent of 200mg Lyprinol® (four capsules) corresponds to about 30 to 40 raw green-lipped mussels. Lyprinol® capsules are a convenient, protein-free way to receive the latent health benefits of the omega-3 packed lipid complex.

Important Health News
If Lyprinol® is calculated as a daily dose of fish oil then you would have to consume 40g of fish oil to achieve an effect similar to one Lyprinol® capsule. That would be 80 large capsules of fish oil. The more powerful effect of Lyprinol® can be explained by the fact that the essential fatty acids in Lyprinol® are significantly more effective in maintaining the minimum healthy levels of arachidonic acid than fish oils.
Published studies have compared PCSO-524® mussels to other oils. Researchers compared the effect of each agent in supporting joint health, mobility, suppleness and healthy breathing. The lipid extract of green-lipped mussels proved to be the most effective.
